THE RIVER
The award-winning thrill-a-minute telenovela, The River, tells the story of two families: the ultra rich Dlaminis and their cronies, who will go to any lengths to maintain their wealth, and those on the other side of the river, like the Dikana family, who have little to show for their hard work. When mining magnate Lindiwe Dlamini-Dikana resorts to murder to keep her mine afloat and save her family from losing everything, she sets in motion a tragic sequence of events and the revelation of a secret that will turn the world upside down for the two inextricably linked families.
Perhaps SA’s best-known TV writing partnership, Phathutshedzo Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon (aka Tshedza Pictures), has written and co-created critically acclaimed shows like Rockville, Igazi, The Queen, The Imposter and, most recently, Giyani: Land of Blood.
At last year’s South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA), Moshidi Motshegwa won Best Actress as Malefu; Presley Chweneyagae won Best Actor as Cobra; and Lawrence Maleka won Best Supporting Actor as Zolani. Sindi Dlathu (Lindiwe) and Tsholofelo Matshaba (Kedibone) are currently nominated as Favourite Actress at the DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards, where Presley and Warren Masemola (Oupa) are also up for Favourite Actor.
